15 Varieties of Mushrooms, Portrayed as Dragons by the Artist

What if dragons were real?

I’m not going to get into a long discussion about the existence of dragons in myths and legends or even discuss conspiracy theories. We can all agree, though, that riding a dragon through the sky would be an amazing experience. Popular films like “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Game of Thrones” both tap into this fascination. While imaginative dragons have been portrayed in a variety of ways before, this is the first time anything like this has been attempted.

The artist known as Xavier Collette wanted to reimagine mushrooms as dragons, so he set out to do just that. There are hundreds of different kinds of mushrooms, and many of them are poisonous. However, if we saw a tiny dragon like the ones in the pictures below, I doubt we’d give a hoot about that. You and I, I’m willing to bet, have never seen anything quite so bizarre and yet aesthetically pleasing before, but that’s all about to change.

This could be your lucky day if you have a thing for dragons and a penchant for mushrooms. Visit the linked website to see even more of their work. They should get more credit for what they’ve done.

#1 This looks like a herbivore dragon if there is such a thing.

#7 I don’t think he can fly with those thick wings but what do I know about dragon anatomy?

#8 This one sort of looks like a dinasour, specifically a velociraptor.

There’s no way I would have guessed that those were dragon-mushroom hybrids if you hadn’t told me. It’s not out of the question that Nintendo tries to take a mushroom approach with their next batch of games. In any case, they seem to have exhausted their Pokemon-related creative energy. On the other hand, these fish would be awesome to reel in.

#9 He might be colorful but his mouth is unnerving to look at.

Those dragon mushrooms… what do you think of them? Do you think the artist did a great job of melding the two styles, or do these depictions fall short for you? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
