The kakapo has feathers that range in color from yellow-green to emerald green, with more yellow on the belly and lower parts of the body.

Kakapo is still under huge threat from predation from cats, and stoats and their eggs and chicks can be killed by rats. Their prospects appear to be significantly improved as a result of significant conservation work.
