Due to the fact that owls are known to be solitary birds, it is extremely difficult to spot two owls at the same time, let alone a pair of these birds of pray making passionate love to one another. A fortunate photographer from the United Kingdom was able to capture on camera a sight that occurs so infrequently that it is practically unheard of. In a quaint community in the English county of Staffordshire, photographer Leslie Arnott was able to capture on film a particularly passionate moment involving two barn owls.

“They are quite hard conditions in the dark woodland and the pair flew for a while before sharing their special moment,” the photographer said. “They started rubbing heads together and acting very affectionate toward one another. The moment finally arrived when it looked like they were kissing each other.’ They ‘kissed’ each other twice, which is something I have never seen before or since.

The photographer said the two majestic birds spend around two or three minutes there, on a tree branch, before taking their fly. And throughout this entire interaction, they were very affectionate with one another.

The fact that the two birds are not actually mates, but rather sisters, makes the situation even more intriguing. Leslie is fairly confident that we will not find an explanation for the innocent kiss that they have shared any time in the near future. “[The two owls] are very affectionate towards each other and work well together, however they’re no a breeding pair,” she said. They are related to each other as sisters.
